Block B: In class today - we finished up our examination of Mulan and how the movie follows the hero's journey.  There is no homework tonight! :)

Block C: Phew! Essays are now done :) No more synthesis writing, until at least next year... Parts 3 and 4 of your novel study are due on Tuesday January 6th.

Block D: Thank you all for your hard work and fearless performances today. I really enjoyed your creativity! No homework :)

Tasks for this Tuesday:

Block B: Please complete the rough draft of your hero poem for tomorrow's class. There will be some time for revision and catch up on creation myths at the beginning of class.

Block C: I hope that your synthesis outlines went well in class today! We start writing our essays in class tomorrow - you will have 2 classes to complete.

Block D: I'm very excited to see the final products of how you have brought these poems to life! Practice your dramatic reading - speak knowledgeably about your topic and wow us with your theme and why this is a poem worth stopping for.

Most of all Monday!

Block B: For tonight complete the yellow handout to organize your thoughts on the hero in your life that you are going to write a poem about. Also the good good (in pen or typed) of your current events poem is due tomorrow.

Block C: Think about how you are going to absorb the synthesis lesson from today - and approach your essay tomorrow. You will have the entire block to prepare your point form outline. The essay writing days will be Wednesday and Thursday.

Block D: There will be one more day to work on your project tomorrow - before presentations start tomorrow!

Fabulous Friday!

Block B: I hope you all enjoyed the performance of our wonderfully talented student musicians today as much as I did! Don't forget to complete the rough draft of your current events poem for Monday.

Block C: Today in class we tackled the characterization task - to write a minimum 17-line poem that captures the essence of your interpretation of the Grandmother from "A Good Man is Hard to Find." Once you completed the poem - you worked on the theme notes and then read the story "A Small, Good Thing" for Monday's class.

Block D: Thank you for your honest reflections - and heart-felt poems. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed reading them. You are all such inspiring and impressive writers. Well done! We will start to share our Bringing Poetry to Life projects on Wednesday. You will have time in class on Monday and Tuesday to prepare your presentation.

Block B: Today we continued / started the rough draft of our current events poem. The rough draft is due on Monday for revision. We will be treated to a performance of our school band tomorrow. Please come to class for attendance - we will head down to the gym together.

Block C: Some interesting thoughts raised in discussion today - thank you for your engaging interaction. No homework tonight.

Block D: Hope you enjoyed the play today! We will continue our work on poetry project tomorrow!

Well, this is Wednesday!

Block B: Current Events Poetry started today! Based on your news article - you completed THIEVES and text coding before completing the summarizing activity. Once you finished the summarizing sheet I then handed out the assignment. The only homework tonight is to finish the summarizing sheet - if not done in class - and study for the quiz on poetic terminology tomorrow.

Block C: All questions were done in class today - no homework tonight!

Block D: Work on your poetry projects will continue on Friday - tomorrow meet at the theatre at 1:30 to see our wonderful drama performance of Fawlty Towers.

Make it Your Monday!

Block B: Think about current events - things that are happening in the world today that interests you - and bring in a hard copy of a newspaper article - either cut out of the paper or printed off the Internet. Avoid celebrity or sports related articles. Please finish your school haiku. Also if you are going to redo your linear notes ELO please make sure it is done for tomorrow.

Block C: If you didn't finish your creative writing task today in class - please do so for homework tonight! Here is the slide just in case you've forgotten.



Block D: Think about poems / poets that you are interested in bringing to life for your poetry project. I will start collecting submissions tomorrow. Think also if you would like to work with a partner, in a trio or alone - it's up to you!

Fortunate Friday:

Block B: Great work on finding figurative devices in song lyrics today! If we get the opportunity we will try that again some time! There is no homework this weekend, unless you would like to re-do the linear notes ELO - if so, please hand them in with your first attempt on Monday.

Block C: Finish the response questions to the story "Barbie-Q" use full sentences and add quotes!

Block D: Great start to poetry today! Over the weekend - please take out and recycle all of your Lord of the Flies sticky notes. We'll take up the answers to the poetic lingo on Monday!

Block B: Our poetry exploration continues tomorrow - no homework tonight!

Block C: Complete the synthesis response to setting in both stories for homework tonight. Just for your own interest - put the amount of time it takes you to complete the paragraph on the top of your paper.

Block D: Synthesis essay writing is done! Well for some of you... If you did not finish your essay in class today - you may come in at lunch tomorrow to finish it.

Work on a Wednesday:

Block B: Our exploration of linear notes continued in class today. After finishing your group notes - you then started work on the independent assignment covering ELOs 1 and 2. You will complete a THIEVES preview, then text-code the article and complete a full set of linear notes - all of which will be handed in tomorrow.

Block C: Please complete the analysis questions for "The Yellow Wallpaper" in complete sentences using examples from the text.

Block D: You can get a jump start on essay writing at 8:00 tomorrow, then again at 11:45 right after C block. If you need extra time you may come in at lunch on Friday.

Block B: Great work today on breaking down the notes we took from yesterday. If you and your group did not finish translating your notes into linear notes - I will give you some time at the beginning of class tomorrow to finish up. No homework tonight!

Block C: We didn't have time today to finish reading "The Yellow Wallpaper" in class, so please read the rest at home tonight. Also, if you didn't finish taking the notes on "setting" please finish those as well.

Block D: Tomorrow we start writing our synthesis essays - I should be here by 8:00 if you want a head start.

Block B: Take all of the good advice and help from your peer editor today and make this your best paragraph yet!! The double-spaced good copy - is due tomorrow. Good work on your group discussions today - and note-taking activity. We'll discuss the process on Tuesday.

Block C: If you didn't finish your plot digram for "The Tell-Tale Heart" please do so tonight. Here is the explanation:


Block D: Hopefully you have some thoughts about what your big idea or theme is going to be for your synthesis essay. We will continue working on the point-form outlines in class tomorrow. If you want/need extra time because of the field trip tomorrow - I'll be here at 8:00 tomorrow morning.
