Work for this Wednesday:

Block B: Keep working hard on your outlines! We will start the good copy of your compare and contrast composition tomorrow.

Block C: Read, read, read! Your first lit circle group meeting is on Friday. You will get time in class tomorrow to complete your reading and minimum of 3 sticky notes per chapter - which I will be checking first thing on Friday!

Block D: You will get the whole block tomorrow to finish the annotation of your poem and/or song. Plus you need to get as much of your POINT FORM outline completed. Leave all notes, and outline in class tomorrow - we will write our essays first thing Friday morning!

Tasks for a Tuesday:

Block B: Good work on the start of your compare and contrast outlines today! We will have some extra time tomorrow as well. Just a reminder that your duo-tangs are over due - make arrangements to get extra time!

Block C: Thank you for your novel study choices today - I hope you get the book you want! Groups and journals will be explained tomorrow.

Block D: Today we reviewed the synthesis writing process - bringing together of multiple works to provide insight and analysis. I gave you the handout on the assignment - we will write the essay in class on Friday. Due tomorrow is the hard copy of lyrics and poem. I will not accept copies on your phone. You need to have an actual paper copy.

Make it your Monday!

Block B: We finished the movie in class - and now you need to make sure your Craig chart is complete - there will be an assignment tomorrow. Your reading duo-tangs are now overdue - make sure you get those in ASAP!

Block C: Essays are done! Great job writers! No homework tonight!

Block D: Keep working on your poetry presentations - they are due on Monday. Manage your time well - as there will be minimal time in class to work on them - we're on to the next assignment.

For you on Friday!

Block B: If you have not completed all of your reading journals for the novel - we will have a catch up day Monday at lunch. Ms. Brown and I are marking them on Monday - so they need to get done! We will also continue the movie.

Block C: Great work on your compare and contrast outlines today. You will get the whole block to write on Monday - come prepared with a pen!

Block D: Keep working on your poetry project - there will be some time on Monday to work on it - but we will be transitioning into a writing assignment as well.

Thoughts on Thursday:

Block B: I know there was a lot to get through for the final part of your reading journals - there will be some time tomorrow to complete the work and hand in your reading logs for assessment.

Block C: Review the pink handout on compare and contrast structures, and read the package I gave at the end of the block in preparation for the task tomorrow.

Block D: Another great poetry challenge today! Hopefully with the regular bell schedule tomorrow you will actually be able to get some work done on your poetry project! Keep thinking about how you are going to bring your poem to life!

Where did Wednesday go?!

Block B: We finished the book!!! There will be time tomorrow to work on the summary, reading strategies and final journal entry for the novel.

Block C: Homework tonight is to read all 4 essays in the package I gave you. Assess / Evaluate all 4 essays according the rubric on the yellow sheet. You should have a list of notes on why you assessed the essay how you did and you may also mark up the copies I gave you.

Block D: If you didn't get the chance to sign up your poem and or poet today in class - please consider your options tonight. Work continues on this project tomorrow!

Tasks on a Tuesday:

Block B: Wow. Deep stuff for Devon! We are almost at the end of our novel study - you all have been doing great. I appreciate your reflective thinking and your attempts to put yourself in Devon's shoes. There will be time tomorrow to complete the 3rd reading strategy and the journal response.

Block C: Thank you all for your incredible work on your poetry presentations. I am honoured to witness your art. Please make sure you hand in the reflection and the criteria sheet with your speech, notes and works cited. Homework tonight is to complete all 4 thesis statements on the worksheet I gave in class. State your declaration (which side you are on) give your 3 reasons why - then turn it into a thesis statement.

Block D: Great work on the poetry challenge today! I gave class time at the end of the block for you to start thinking about the poet and poem that you are going to attempt to bring to life. For homework tonight please try to narrow down your options so that you are able to get started tomorrow.

Block B: Great work on the novel today - you finished up the summary and the reading strategies for the 2 chapters we read in class today. If you didn't finish the journal then there will be some extra time on Tuesday.

Block C: If you didn't finish the second activity from the handout yesterday on essay basics - finish up your 2 paragraphs one formally written and one informal sample of writing - due on Tuesday.

Block D: Over the weekend please consider the project that I assigned today - think about the artist you would like to research and we'll talk about how to bring that poem to life.

Takeaway Tuesday:

Block B: The power of words - some very interesting thoughts and observations! We will finish up this novel break tomorrow - then back to the book!

Block C: What a fabulous day of presentations! Today you blew me away with your bravery and creativity. Thank you for sharing your work with us. There are a couple more presentations - but we will get through them when I get back. No homework tonight!

Block D: The official start of poetry today. And we have some big questions to answer for ourselves. First of all, what makes poetry worth stopping for? An initial response was written in class - before we had a chance to complete our first poetry challenge. Never fear - we shall pick that up next time I see you. No homework tonight!

Wonderful Wednesday!

Block B: There will be some time tomorrow to complete the 3rd reading strategy and the journal response for chapters 12&13.

Block C: Research and writing continue for your poetry presentations. We are done with our time in the library - but you will have a full class tomorrow to continue your work on this project.

Block D: It was revision day for essay writing today - self and peer editing. If you are not going on the field trip tomorrow - you have taken your draft home to write up in pen (double-spaced) or typed (double-spaced) and handed in tomorrow. No changes beyond what was worked on in class please!

Block C: Today we worked on your poetry research projects. You will have another class tomorrow to research - and feel free to bring in your own technology if you want to get started writing your speech.

Block D: Essay rough drafts are done! Tomorrow you will have the opportunity to get some feedback for your good copy. No major changes at this point though!

Block B: Today in class we read chapters 9&10 of our novel and started work on the summary and first 2 reading strategies. There will be time tomorrow to finish the rest!

Block C: Such interesting reactions to the movie! I know for some the ending felt abrupt however, it makes one wonder why the film maker would have chosen such an ambiguous ending. What message about life should we take away? For homework tonight - please complete questions 1-4 for "To the Virgins to Make Much of Time"

Block D: Today was essay writing day #1. Some of you took advantage of the open lunch block to start your writing early. You will have one more class tomorrow to finish your draft.

Block B: Your ticket out the door today was to complete the summary and first 2 reading strategies. There will be time on Monday for strategy 3 and the journal. No homework this weekend!

Block C: Hope you have been enjoying the movie so far! We will finish up the rest on Monday - make sure you are keeping track with your handout. No homework this weekend!

Block D: Today was a prep day for your essay on Monday. You left all sources and the outline in class. Make sure you are here on time - you will get 2 blocks to write :) Relax this weekend and clear your mind - you have nothing to worry about until you start writing on Monday!

Thoughts on Thursday:

Block B: Great discussion of "The Raven" today - some very interesting observations and thoughts on this image filled poem. There will be extra time tomorrow to complete the figurative language chart. Thank you to those who stayed in at lunch to catch up on your work!

Block C: Fabulous discussion today of "O Me! O Life!" your insight and savvy blows me away! Take Whitman's advice and write your own verse - don't let others influence you!!! There is no homework tonight!

Block D: Thank you for bringing in your research today on your essay topics. Hopefully you were able to get a better handle on quoting from your sources in the refresher exercise in class. I will give you the whole block tomorrow to work on your outline. You will be leaving all materials in class over the weekend and you will start writing in class on Monday.

Block C: Great work on the poetry writing challenge based on the images in class - can't wait to read how you interpreted those images! Homework tonight is to complete the 7 questions on the "O Me! O Life!" poem handed out in class today. Full and complete sentences please!

Block D: today was for further refining your essay topics, and getting started on your introduction. Homework tonight is to print off your 3 reliable and reputable sources - I want to see where your information is coming from!

Block B: We will give you some time in class tomorrow to complete the rest of the reading strategies and the journal response for chapters 2&3.

Block C: For homework tonight - choose one of the poems from the list and complete a paragraph response for the 3 questions from the slide. I'll collect these at the start of class.

Block D: If you completed your proposal and brainstorm and have gotten approval - then you have no homework - although you may want to start poking around Google Scholar... I'll be checking proposals first thing tomorrow - for those who complete them at home tonight.
