Masterful Monday

Block A: Some story hey? We read "The Yellow Wallpaper" in class today. I didn't assign anything - just digest the story and we'll talk tomorrow.

Block B: Thank you. All I can say is, thank you. What an honour and a privilege to witness your performances today. Thank you for your honesty, bravery and hard work. You make me so proud!

Block D: Book Talk day tomorrow!!! Make sure you have practiced and prepared your cue cards! If you didn't finish the Linear Notes assignment in class - please do so for homework tonight :)

Thoughts on Thursday:

Block A: If you didn't finish the study guide for "Hills Like White Elephants" and the assisted study notes on setting - please have them done for Monday!

Block B: I'M SO EXCITED FOR MONDAY!!!! DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HARD WORK. I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH YOU TAKE THE STAGE AND PERFORM YOUR PIECES. KEEP REHEARSING YOUR PIECES - READ TO YOUR FAMILY, READ TO YOUR DOG - JUST KEEP ON READING!!!!

WE WILL MEET IN THE THEATRE - SEE YOU THERE!!!!

Block D: We are currently working on a three part assignment. You were given the non-fiction article on Cyclone Pam. Please complete the THIEVES and text-codes for homework this weekend. I will give you time in class for the linear notes portion.

Block B: Phew! Synthesis essays are done!!! Tomorrow we workshop our performance pieces - so make sure you have a draft in class!

Block D: Well, that was interesting... More on linear notes tomorrow - no homework tonight :)

Mellow Monday:

Block A: Thank you so much for handing in your poetry projects today!! Can't wait to read them. We started our new unit of short stories today - which began with a review of terminology. Make sure you are keeping up with all of your notes as you will need them to study for the Provincial Exam. The task at the end of class was to complete the assisted notes on plot. You read the document and then completed the questions. Keep these all together for future reference. If you didn't finish your notes in class - please have them done for tomorrow.

Block B: Day one of synthesis essay writing is over. You will have one more block tomorrow and lunch (if you need it) to finish off the rest. Keep calm and write on!

Block D: Finish up your text-codes and record of your thinking for tomorrow. Don't forget - that we have attempt #2 at ELO#6 tomorrow - study your PARTS OF SPEECH!!!

Follow Along to Friday!

Block A: Your poetry project is due on Monday - make sure you have all components complete and organized.

Block B: You need to submit the title of your performance piece on Monday - make sure it is in class!! We start writing our synthesis essays on Monday - you will have 2 blocks to write - so manage your time well.

Block D: Great work on the start of text-coding today! There is no homework this weekend! But you should study for ELO 6 attempt #2 that is happening on Tuesday!!!

Block A: We are almost finished presentations - just one more to go tomorrow. You should bring your duo-tang project to class tomorrow as a last opportunity to work on it before handing it in on Monday.

Block B: One more day to annotate and work on your synthesis essay outline. We will start writing on Monday. Don't forget you need have the title of your performance piece ready for submission on Monday. Our rehearsal workshop starts on Wednesday!

Block D: Great job on the drill today people!!! A lot of hard work on those mind maps too. Well done! If you finished in class - no homework tonight :)

Melodious Monday

Block A: One more day to work on your oral analysis project!!! Presentations will start on Wednesday.

Block B: The title of your poem is due on November 23rd, and a rough draft of your poem needs to be in class on Wednesday Nov. 25th. We are moving on to other work tomorrow - so your next in class committee meeting won't be until the 25th. Make sure you are up to date and keeping track of your responsibilities!

Block D: Phew! ELO attempt #1 is done! There will be a second attempt coming up if you are hoping to improve on your results. Great work on becoming THIEVES of information today! No homework tonight :)

Thoughtful Thursday:

Block A: Thank you to all of the anonymous writers out there. Your art deserves to be shared! You now have 2 projects that you are working on and you'll get time in class to do so. Presentations for your oral analysis are on Wednesday Nov. 18th!

Block B: We will have committee meetings tomorrow - so make sure that you are doing what is asked of you! Keep working on your own performance piece. It is a process of revision - keep on writing!!

Block D: The double-spaced good copy of your descriptive paragraph is due tomorrow. Make sure you also have the outline, rough draft and pink peer editing sheet to hand in. I think most of you were able to finish your parts of speech review in class. We'll have the parts of speech pre-test tomorrow so make sure you're studying!!!

Lest We forget

Block A: Think about the poem that you would like to present for your oral analysis project - I will be taking sign ups on Thursday. Also - make sure you are checking in with me regarding your anonymous poems they are now due for approval!!

Block B: Great work on the poetry challenge today! All committees have homework to do for the slam: come up with 2 titles for the day. Make sure you are following through on the tasks you need to complete for your group. Keep working through your planning package for your performance piece. I know this is a bit of a process - but you can do it!!

Block D: Finish off the front side of the parts of speech review cards for Thursday. Also - you need to have your double-spaced rough draft of your descriptive paragraph in class Thursday for peer editing.

Most of all Monday!

Block A: Please finish your TP-CASTT for your chosen poem - I'll collect first thing tomorrow! Your anonymous poem needs to get approval by Thursday - so make sure that you run your poem by me!

Block B: Today was a writing block for your performance piece. There is no specific homework tonight - as this is a fluid process and all writers will be working at their own pace. Tomorrow you will have committee meetings for the Nov. 30th Slam. Make sure you have in class what you need for planning.

Block D: The outline for your descriptive paragraph is due tomorrow - make sure you are using transition words to introduce each of your senses. Keep studying your parts of speech - the first attempt at ELO 6 is due on Monday Nov. 16th.

Functional Friday:

Block A: If you did not finish tasks 1 and 2 on literary devices of contrast - please complete them and hand them in on Monday.

Block B: Homework for this weekend is to create a list of the top 10 things that you know to be true. Start thinking about the topic that you might like to write about for your slam piece. If you have a specific task for your committee make sure you are on track for that - when you meet together on Tuesday.

Block D: Keep studying your 8 parts of speech. The first attempt at ELO 6 will be Monday November 16th. The only homework for the weekend is to finish your chart or web for the descriptive paragraph. We'll work on the outline on Monday.

Block B: I'm SO excited to get started on our first ever poetry slam competition!!! It is going to be great! We'll sign up for our committees tomorrow - so think about what you might like to be involved in planning. The homework for tonight is to finish your devious devices crossword puzzle.

Block D: Thank you for your mind maps today! The only homework tonight is to complete both sides of the parts of speech review sheet. We'll talk about the answers tomorrow.

Talking about Tuesday:

Block A: There will be a quiz tomorrow on the devices of figurative comparison that we talked about today. If you didn't finish the poem - please hand it in tomorrow. Make sure you label your three different devices of figurative comparison. Then write a short explanation of what you were hoping to accomplish. How did the use of these devices extend, enrich or qualify the literal meaning of your text.

Block B: Thank you for you responses to the movie today! A lot of thoughtful reflection. We will start poetry challenge #1 tomorrow - so there is no homework tonight!

Block D: Your mind map is due at the end of class tomorrow. You were able to take it home and work on it tonight - just make sure you bring any and all materials to class today that you may need to finish it off tomorrow. This may include a fine liner, pencil crayons or felts, and a ruler.
